The term onomatopoeia is derived from Greek language that phonetically imitates, suggests or resembles the source of the descriptive sounds. It is the combination of two Greek words, the meanings of that words are name and the other I make. Onomatopoeia refers to the noun that is uncountable. There are several forms of onomatopoeia including animal noises as meow, oink and roar. Onomatopoeias are different across all the languages; to some extent, they confirm that they are part of the broader linguistic system, thus the sound of clock in English may tick tock, in Mandarin language it may be di da or in Japanese it is katchin katchin. Although the term onomatopoeia means the imitation of a sound in the English language, and in Greek the compound term onomatopoeia means makes or creates names.

Many historians have made an extensive use of onomatopoeic sounds in their comic strips. The use of the effects of onomatopoeic sounds in comic strips was pioneered by Crane; adding pow, bam, and wham in the visual vocabulary. To increase the fast-paced storyline, the words as well as images became vehicles. In many languages, the term onomatopoeia is used to describe the phenomena.

The concept of onomatopoeia cannot be understood without examples. There are five categories of onomatopoeic words with letter combinations that are commonly used for certain sounds. Most of the time, an onomatopoeic word is contained within the word that is based on letter combinations and can come at the beginning or at the end. There are many words which show the same pronunciation in the languages just because of the nature of the term of onomatopoeia.They can be used as; words related to water, words related to the voice, words related to Collisions, Words related to Air and animal sounds.

There are many onomatopoeia words that have come to mean the things related the sounds they make.The sound of the slap is not only means that it is the sound that made by hitting skin, thus also the action of hitting someone with an open hand. There are many cartoons having such type of onomatopoeic sounds such as Tom and Jerry, Pink Panther,Oggy and the Cockroachesand many more.
