Đánh giá lens sigma 17 35 năm 2024

This lens is good edge to edge when stopped down, even on full frame. This lens is good for every day landscape / architecture work. Color is good, with good deep blues. It is less saturated than the DG version. Contrast is slightly improved with a good modern multi coated UV filter. The lens is not brilliant wide open and probably wasn't meant to be. The Pentax 15-30 mm is, obviously, sharper on the edge at wider apertures, but how often do you need ultra wide angle and shallow depth of field?

Lenss > Sigma 17 35mm F28 4 EX DG Aspherical HSM Canon > Lens Test Results

First of all, let’s take a look at the results for the Sigma lens by itself:

Sigma 17-35mm F2.8-4 EX DG Aspherical HSM Canon mounted on a Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III

With a DxO Mark Score of 20, this wide-angle zoom is indeed a good-quality lens.

Comparison

Sigma 17-35mm F2.8-4 EX DG Aspherical HSM Canon vs Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM mounted on a Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III

Both lenses achieve the same DxOMark overall score of 20. When looking at the results a bit more closely, the Sigma’s quality seems actually somewhat lower [see also the DxOMark score map].

In fact, the Sigma’s performance drops off a bit for the greatest focal lengths [starting at 28 mm], due to the fact that the Sigma doesn’t maintain a constant f/2.8. To compensate for the loss of brightness, one must augment the ISO sensitivity – and consequently, noise goes up as well.

Sigma 17-35mm F2.8-4 EX DG Aspherical HSM Canon

The advantages The disadvantages Homogenous sharpness in the field at maximum aperture An aperture that varies depending on the focal length Good correction of chromatic aberrations Very heterogenous optical quality A truly affordable lens in terms of price

Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM

The advantages The disadvantages Homogenous optical quality Good sharpness only in the first third of the field With a constant aperture, the Canon is brighter Very strong chromatic aberrations chromatiques in the corners at 16mm High price

Conclusion

The Sigma 17-35mm F2.8-4 EX DG Aspherical HSM Canon is a very good lens for the price. While each lens has its strong and weak points, the Sigma quite frankly manages to hold its own against its pricier Canon rival.

The Sigma 17-35mm f/2.8-4 EX DG HSM Lens review page is included for access to the ISO 12233 Crops and Vignetting results. I do not plan to review the Sigma 17-35mm f/2.8-4 EX DG HSM Lens at this time.

The lens is also more barrel shaped than its cone shaped predecessor, enhancing the solid look and making both the zoom and focus rings the same diameter. The ribbed grip on both rings is a practical pattern that is varied by coarseness, the zoom being the larger pattern than the focus, which is the front of the two. I always feel that this is a useful tactile difference. The zoom ring is marked at 17, 20, 24, 28 and 35mm.

The only control on the lens, other than these rings, is the auto/manual switch for the focussing, and even this is omitted on the Nikon mount version.

The finish is Sigma’s smooth matt surface, which I have found to be hard wearing as well as smart. The supplied, shallow, petal-shaped hood has the same finish and the bayonet fitting has been improved by the inclusion of a click stop to keep it in position. Though shallow, this hood still proved to be practical and worthwhile.

The inclusion of an HSM [HyperSonic Motor] focussing engine, which was included in the old model but seems quicker and quieter in the new, and the short distance it needs to travel in this type of lens, makes focussing virtually instant. The wide aperture helps here, allowing plenty of light in to get a very fast focus ‘fix’! All in all, a well put together lens that felt right and was nice to use.

Optical Quality The older lens was a nice lens, although it did gain a reputation for being a little soft at times. The new one has improved considerably. Let us not forget that this lens is classified as a DG lens and can still be used on full frame 35mm cameras despite having been optimised for digital. Like all lenses, the performance wide open is not as good as when the lens is stopped down an aperture or two and this one is no different. Once you are through the f/5.6 mark though, the sharpness cannot be faulted. As this is a wide-angle zoom, it is good to see that the optimum performance is attained at the 17mm short end whereas most zooms are optimised for the middle of their range.

Colours are well reproduced and chromatic aberrations well controlled once the lens is closed down a stop. I found no evidence of ghosting or flare.
