Hi,

Please check if you can find the pathword from below paths:

/Users/$USER/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.rdc.mac/Data/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.rdc.mac.plist
Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access

For your reference: //apple.stackexchange.com/questions/182209/where-does-microsoft-rdp-8-for-mac-store-its-configuration/182258

This is what worked for me. I'm on MacOS Mojave [10.14]

Let's say the user account stored in Microsoft Remote Desktop is "sleepycat" and you want to know the password.

Open Keychain Access -> Click "Login" from Keychains [other options would be iCloud, System and System Roots]. Under Category select "All Items" or "Passwords"
On the right pane, search for "sleepycat". Right click -> Copy Password to Clipboard [It may prompt you for your mac credentials]
Paste the copied password on to a text editor to see the password.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
1.Have you tried to reboot the mac and reconfigure the .rdp file by exporting and importing again?

2.Instead of using .rdp file, please also try to set up user account and save credentials in rdc for mac.

  • Go to Preferences, click on the "User Accounts" tab and select the connection that is saved. Enter the password in the Password field where it says "Optional".

  • Close the window and now you will not be prompted to enter the password again

//remotedesktop.uservoice.com/forums/287834-remote-desktop-client-for-mac/suggestions/39110791-passwords-not-saved-anymore

3.As below thread indicated that the saved credentials should be stored in below path:
/Users/$USER/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.rdc.mac/Data/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.rdc.mac.plist
Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access
//docs.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/159746/microsoft-remote-desktop-password.html
//support.apple.com/guide/keychain-access/what-is-keychain-access-kyca1083/mac

Hope this helps and please help to accept as Answer if the response is useful.

Thanks,
Jenny

Hi JennyYan,

Thank you for your help.

Let me explain more about my case.

RDP file is provide by admin. Which I will not be able to know the password of the remote machine.

If I want to access to remote machine I have to download a new RD Pfile every time. RDP can be used once.

Thanks
Seksit.

Hi,
Thanks for the update.
So have you tried to open the .rdp file with remote desktop client running in windows computer?
Or kindly confirm with the admin if anything has been changed in the .rdp files since they were used for once.

When it comes to .rdp file failed to save credentials, it is probably related to the settings configured on the RDSH or the "allow me to save credentials" setting on mstsc [if windows OS].

After we exclude the possible cause with the .rdp file itself, you could report the feedback via the application to the RDC product team and let them check further if it is compatibility issue.

At last, I found there is a new beta version released today which you could have a try.

How to set up Remote Desktop on Mac

  • Author:

Edit me

Microsoft Remote Desktop is used to access remote Windows computers, including physical machines, virtual machines in cloud environments [such as in the Big Data Lab and Cybersecurity Center], and the War Room Virtual Desktop.

Step-by-Step Guide

Install the Remote Desktop Application

  1. Visit the Apple iTunes Store to download the Microsoft Remote Desktop application:
    //apps.apple.com/us/app/microsoft-remote-desktop-10/id1295203466?m...

  2. Click “View in Mac App Store”.
  3. Once the App Store opens, click "Get", then click "Install App".
  4. If prompted, enter your Apple ID and password.
  5. Click "Open" once the installation finishes.

Use the Remote Desktop Application to Connect to RDS

  1. Connect to the University VPN.
    A connection to the University VPN is required to access RDS.
  2. Open a web browser and go to the following URL:
    //rds.college.columbia.edu
  3. Enter the credentials as follows:
    Domain\user name: COLLEGE\UNI
    Note: You must include “COLLEGE\” before entering your UNI as in the image below.
    Password: Your domain password, which you use to log on to your computer

  4. Click the CCIT Remote Desktop Services icon

  5. Open the Remote Desktop Connection file with extension .rdp that is downloaded to your computer and re-enter your credentials on the window that appears:

Common Issues

Remote Desktop Connection instead of Microsoft Remote Desktop

If the downloaded .rdp file opens in a program called "Remote Desktop Connection" instead of "Microsoft Remote Desktop", it will look like the following:

If this occurs, locate the downloaded .rdp file in your Downloads folder:

Right click the .rdp file and select "Get Info":

In the window that opens, expand the “Open with:” tab, select "Microsoft Remote Desktop" from the drop-down menu, and click “Change All…”:

Double-clicking on the .rdp file in your Downloads folder should now take you to the correct login screen.
