Google Remote Desktop is a handy tool that allows users to access their home computer from any other computer or mobile device with an internet connection. However, one major inconvenience of the program is that copy and paste functions do not work properly. This can be a major inconvenience for users who need to transfer text between computers.

The recent version of the Chrome Remote Desktop extension has the option to enable copy and paste enabled by default. You can use Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V in the remote tab to carry out those 2 tasks.

That’s for text. If you want to copy and paste files or folders, you need to use another feature via the extension’s menu.

Chrome Remote Desktop provides users the ability to transfer with the Upload and Download options.

On the arrow on the right side of the extension, there is an arrow that will expand all of the available features and settings on tap. Then you can scroll down to the File transfer section to view menu items for moving files between 2 computers.

I am able to copy what I need to paste in the desktop from my phone, but I have no way to basically send "ctrl+v" from my phone to the desktop.

Don't know what to do when facing Chrome Remote Desktop copy paste not working? Read this post, here we provide you with three effective ways to fix it.

By @Ellie Last Updated April 8, 2022

Chrome Remote Desktop, developed by Google, is a free remote access program that gives users permanent access to another computer with different operating systems. Users use CRD for different purposes, working or studying. A function they may use a lot is copy and paste, which is convenient and time-saving.

Normally, using copy and paste in Chrome Remote Desktop is pretty much the same as using copy and paste on any other occasion. You can use  Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V on the keyboard, or use the mouse. However, recently some users said they are facing Google Chrome Remote Desktop copy paste not working problem.

"I use the Google Remote Desktop web application to connect to a remote server. My problem here is that I am unable to copy and paste the host to the remote server. How can I fix this problem?"

Why is Chrome Remote Desktop copy paste not working?

Sometimes, due to the following reasons, Chrome Remote Desktop copy-paste may not work:

  • The clipboard synchronization on Chrome Remote Desktop has not been enabled.
  • Google Chrome may sometimes block the use of copy and paste on some sites.
  • There's something wrong with your keyboard, making copy and paste not working properly.

Three solutions to fix Chrome Remote Desktop copy paste not working

Now that we’ve figured out the causes of Chrome Remote Desktop copy paste not working, here are the detailed steps on how to fix it.

Solution 1. Enable clipboard synchronization

Step 1. After you’ve successfully connected to another computer via Chrome Remote Desktop, open the Option Panel on the right side of the screen. Locate Enable clipboard synchronization, and then click Begin.

Step 2. Then you’ll receive a pop-up window to remind you that Chrome Remote Desktop wants to see text and images copied to the clipboard. Click Allow.

Step 3. Now, you’ve already enabled clipboard synchronization, click OK to start Chrome Remote Desktop copy paste.

Solution 2. Edit site setting

Step 1. Click the button on the upper-right corner, and then click Settings.

Step 2. Click Privacy and security on the left pane, and then locate and click Site Settings.

Step 3. On the Site Setting page, locate the site of Chrome Remote Desktop. Then click the button where the mouse locates.

Step 4. Then slide your mouse, you’ll find Clipboard. Change the default setting into Allow. Now you can start Chrome Remote Desktop copy paste.

Solution 3. Use the on-screen keyboard

Step 1. Open the Control Panel, locate and click Easy of Access.

Step 2. In the left pane, find and click Keyboard.

Step 3. Turn on Use the On-Screen Keyboard [or you could also press the Windows logo key + Ctrl + O to turn the On-Screen Keyboard on or off].

Step 4. Then you can use the on-screen keyboard to copy and paste.

Note: Here we take Windows as an example, you can find the on-screen keyboard on your own computer. But notice that not every system has an on-screen keyboard.

Alternative to Chrome Remote Desktop: AnyViewer

In addition to copy-paste not working, users of Chrome Remote Desktop may also face other annoying problems like Chrome Remote Desktop not working, Chrome Remote Desktop timeout, etc. Besides, Chrome Remote Desktop has several obvious shortcomings. Firstly, you need to download the Chrome browser on both computers. Secondly, you need to log in to the same account. Thirdly, the automatically generated access code will expire only in 5 minutes. If you are not familiar with the operation, it will be difficult to complete within the time limit. It is not very friendly to novice users.

Therefore, here we recommend an alternative to Chrome Remote Desktop, AnyViewer, to you. AnyViewer is free yet professional remote desktop software for Windows which is very easy to set up and use. Next, we'll introduce the two methods used for remote connection over AnyViewer.

Part 1. For unattended remote access with one-click

Step 1. Download, install and launch AnyViewer on both computers. Go to Log in, and then click Sign up. [If you already have signed up on its official website, you can log in directly.]

Step 2. Fill in the signup information.

Step 3. Then you can see you successfully logged in to AnyViewer. Your device will automatically be assigned to the account you've logged in.

Note: If you have logged in to the same AnyViewer account on the two devices, then you can achieve a direct connection by clicking Remote control. If the two devices are not logged in to the same account, you can read the following steps to learn two more connection methods.

Part 2. Two connection methods of AnyViewer

Connection method 1. Send a control request

Step 1. On the client computer, input the device ID of the host computer and then click Connect.

Step 2. Click Send a control request to your partner.

Step 3. On the host computer, click Allow to make the connection successful.

Connection method 2. Input security code

Step 1. On the host computer, go to Settings > Recipient. Tick the third option and then set the permanent security code.

Step 2. On the client computer, input the device ID of the host computer and then click Connect. Choose Input security code and enter the code. Click OK to achieve remote access.

Now, you can start to control the host computer. You can copy texts from the client computer and then paste them into the host computer. But unfortunately, AnyViewer doesn't support file copy and paste presently. This feature will be available in the near future.

Conclusion

In summary, this post introduces three methods to fix Chrome Remote Desktop copy paste not working. You can try it one by one to fix your problem. If you're tired of fixing the problem and want to find an easier remote desktop tool, you can use AnyViewer. With its intuitive interface and simpler setup process, you can quickly start the remote connection and remote copy-paste.
