Htc desire 12 plus camera review

HTC has announced two new additions to its budget range, revealing the HTC Desire 12 and the HTC Desire 12 Plus.

There’s a lot to be interested about with these two models, not least the fact that they both embrace the bezel-less philosophy that’s oh so 2018. While they’re not as bezel-free as the iPhone X or the Galaxy S9, both have 18:9 full-screen displays, HTC Sense Assistant, and Android 8.0 Oreo right out of the gate, giving you a lot of phone for your money. Here’s the lowdown on each of these two new budget beauties.

The HTC Desire 12 is the smaller of the two phones, but it’s still pretty beefy. It uses a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display running a 1440 x 720 resolution that’s not the sharpest we’ve seen, but should be sufficient for the price point. It’s powered by a Mediatek MT6739 that, while not the most powerful budget chip around, should be sufficient to keep the phone running everyday tasks smoothly. Buyers have the choice of two models — one with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, or another with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Storage shouldn’t be too much of an issue whichever you pick, since both models have a MicroSD card slot that can expand your available storage by up to 2TB.

You’ll find a 5-megapixel lens around the front of the phone, while the back houses a 13MP camera that looks good enough to get some decent snaps. It’s all wrapped up in shimmery acrylic, similar to the HTC U11 Life.

As you might expect from the name, the Desire 12 Plus is the larger of the two, sporting a 6-inch IPS LCD, but still running the same 1440 x 720 resolution. It’s also received a more powerful processor than its smaller sibling with the Snapdragon 450, as well as 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a MicroSD card slot.

Around the front you’ll find an 8MP selfie-snapper, but the back houses a dual-camera setup, with a 13MP lens paired with a 2MP lens to provide the “bokeh” DSLR-style effect we’ve come to love. We’re looking forward to seeing what this budget camera has going for it. The Desire 12 Plus is wrapped in the same acrylic as the Desire 12, and if it’s as good an effect as on the HTC U11 Life then we look forward to seeing it in action.

OnePlus 9 series users report multiple bugs after latest Oxygen OS 12 update

Things don’t seem to be going well for OnePlus, which recently rolled out a significant update for its 2021 flagships -- the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro. Initial reports indicate that the fresh Oxygen OS 12 update for both smartphones is littered with bugs. Hours after people updated their phones, they took to social media and OnePlus’ own forums to voice their concerns.

The issues range from seemingly minor ones like UI inconsistencies and poor animations to potentially crippling ones like slow Wi-Fi speeds and losing the ability to make and receive calls. The move to Oxygen OS 12 has also resulted in OnePlus removing several customization options on the OnePlus 9 series. With the update installed, users lose the ability to change individual icons, disable Google Feed, or customize the status bar.

OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro are latest Android phones to get Android 12 Oxygen OS

OnePlus this week followed Samsung's lead by rolling out Android 12 to its latest flagships, the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro. Android 12 comes in tandem with the company's Oxygen OS 12, the latest version of its own operating system, which brings OnePlus' extras to Google's update. New features OxygenOS 12 brings in the usual Android 12 updates, as well as a lot of OnePlus-exclusive changes. There's no Material You here, but there is a visual overhaul here that's aimed at enhancing the readability of the operating system. It also makes OnePlus phones feel a lot more like Oppo's phones, a consequence of the merger that occurred earlier in the year.

Some of the features being highlighted as new including OnePlus Scout and Work-Life Balance [an iOS 15 focus mode-like feature] were already available on the company's Indian models. Other features build upon some that already existed, including a more customizable Always On Display, while the Notes and Gallery apps also have seen improvements. OnePlus has a more detailed changelog for those interested.

OnePlus, Oppo, Xiaomi, and Motorola could get Android 12 dynamic theme support

Android 12 brings a long overdue visual overhaul to the Google OS. The Material You theming system changes the appearance of your device, including the colors of UI elements based on the current wallpaper. Since other Android manufacturers have their own Android skins, it was unknown if the feature would be coming to devices other than the Pixels. Now, it appears that Oppo, OnePlus, Realme, Xiaomi, and more smartphones could get Android12's dynamic themes support.

As of now, the theming system code-named Monet is exclusive to Google's own Pixel devices. However, Mishaal Rahman [on Twitter] has found a new code commit in Google's Material Components library that is titled "Add supporting manufacturer list of dynamic colors"

What happened with HTC phones?

HTC sold most of its smartphone manufacturing business to Google in 2018, but the company hasn't entirely retreated from the market. The Desire 21 Pro 5G was released a little over a year ago as a mid-range phone [pictured above], and now the company apparently wants to make another flagship phone.
