Hiking
Topo Designs Klettersack
Great pack for a quick hike! I use this for light hikes with my young son [4yrs] and it fits a water bottle in both side pouches and plenty of room inside for a light layer and snacks for each of us inside. The top flap is a great design and allows for added equipment or first aid to live outside of the deep pack itself and helps keep organized or allow for quick access. One think to keep in mind is that if you carry a larger water bottle [32oz Nalgene], these pouches may be too narrow. Additionally, the side pouches aren't elastic or billowed so the bottle protrudes into the pack space a little bit when they are used

I bought a Tarn 40 for my now 8 year old and I ended up carrying it on hikes and I LOVED the fit. I am 4'11" and I found that the shoulder pads and hip belt just felt better on me. So it is no surprise that this pack feels the same way. It really is customizable and the waist belt has plenty of adjustability
Strap
Topo Designs Klettersack
I was initially not a fan of the shoulder straps, but they've definitely grown on me, and are one of the more comfortable straps I've used now. I think the trick is that the shoulder straps are especially wide, which spreads the weight across more of your shoulders to minimize pressure at any one point.

A good test to make sure shoulder straps without load lifters are set properly is to have the wearer shrug their shoulders. If the shrug has more than minimal resistance from the weight of the pack, the straps are likely too low.
Commute
Topo Designs Klettersack
It looks clean and professional and holds my laptop along with all my work materials and my food for the day. Highly recommend for the office commute.

Stretchy mesh pockets inside the pack will help kids stay organized, along with the external mesh pockets that are great for water bottles, snacks, and souvenirs. From school to the trailhead and back again, this quality, durable pack will last young hikers for a few years.
Carry-on
Topo Designs Klettersack
Finally grabbed a Klettersack and it has made an excellent carry on bag for flying. I can jam a 13" MacBook and a 12.9" iPad in the computer slot. I stuff an extra t shirt and shorts in the bottom and it still has plenty of room for all my computer gear as well as a Dopp kit and Global case! Best part is it fits right under my feet on the plane

So once you take this [ Applause ], so it's important when you're testing out of pack run when your size in a pack that you have your pack full and it's not empty. So our pack right now is nice and full and so we're gon na test. It out the first thing we want to do is we want to be able to adjust these straps here, which are right on the shoulder. She has all the weight on the pack right now on her shoulder
Comfort
Topo Designs Klettersack
Stylish, functional, and American made. Sweet.

The pack should be supported with the shoulder in a natural posture rather than having to pull forward or up, which causes muscular fatigue.

I chose the black cordura when it came on sale. I generally liked the look of the bag, but found it too small and the straps, although having a trendy and sturdy seatbelt design, to be disproportionate in comfort to the weight of the pack. I decided to give it to the starbucks drive through cashier who I see regularly who had worn a similarly patterned shirt. My recommendation would to make a larger version and take a closer look at Lowe Alpine for the comfort of their uncontoured but well engineered straps

I wish we would have sized the backpack better for our son though. We bought these online last year when the boys were 9 and 7. We bought the Tarn 40 for our 7-year-old, and the Tarn 65 for our 9-year-old, hoping our daughter could eventually use both as hand-me-downs. The Tarn 65 is still way too big for our son, who is now 10
