Top 10 game hệ thống sega master năm 2022

The Sega Master System may not have been home to 8-bit heavy hitters like Mario, Zelda, or Castlevania, but it had plenty of games to call its own, many of which are among the best that the era had to offer. From arcade classics brought into the home, excellent third-party adventures, and of course, Sega’s own first-party efforts on the platform. There really is something for all kinds of gamers on the Master System, which has led to many re-discovering the system, 35 years after its release. So today, for all those gamers looking to get into the Master System’s catalog whether for the first time or to re-play an old favorite, here are our picks for the best Sega Master System games out there.

10 – After Burner

Top 10 game hệ thống sega master năm 2022

The 1980s are remembered by many as the first golden age of arcade gaming and a big reason for this was Sega. The company delivered hit after hit onto arcade floors, many of which using revolutionary and immersive cabinet designs. The high-octane flight combat of After Burner was one such game, featuring a cabinet that replicated the cockpit of an F-14 Tomcat fighter jet. It was intense and I consider myself lucky to have gotten to play the game in this way. But just because you aren’t playing it in a replica fighter jet, the 8-bit version of After Burner is just as entertaining, Keeping mostly everything that made the arcade release intact this was one of the most intense games available on the Master System and of the 8-bit era altogether.

9 – Vampire: Master Of Darkness

Top 10 game hệ thống sega master năm 2022

The Sega Master System never did get a Castlevania game to call its own as Nintendo made sure they locked down Konami’s vampire-busting trilogy for themselves. But why should that stop Sega from joining the fight against the nightwalkers? Vampire: Master Of Darkness was released very late in the Master System’s life (June 1993 in North America) and players would have been excused to thinking it was part of Konami’s franchise. But no, this is all Sega’s work and it’s a heck of a job. The game tells the story of Dr. Ferdinand Social looking to find and defeat none other than Count Dracula himself. The gameplay is essentially pulled right from Castlevania but done so with tighter controls, which might just mean this is the best 8-bit fight against Dracula out there.

8 –

Top 10 game hệ thống sega master năm 2022

You might not be surprised to hear that this next entry was only released in Europe. That’s because, despite being an excellent kid’s comic series, the Asterix & Obelix franchise just hasn’t seemed to catch on here in North America. History may have been different though if Sega’s Asterix actually came out here as this is an absolutely excellent 2D platformer. With bright and colorful graphics, plenty of varied worlds, and very tight gameplay, it’s almost immediately obvious that this was developed in-house at Sega during a time where they were at the top of the 2D platformer genre. Definitely worth checking out today.

7 – Golden Axe Warrior

Top 10 game hệ thống sega master năm 2022

The NES’s The Legend of Zelda was one of the biggest hits for Nintendo and quickly made them the go-to company for action/adventure games. Well not one to be deterred, Sega got to work crafting their own 8-bit equivalent though instead of creating a new franchise, they went with one of their recent arcade hits. Golden Axe Warrior may appear on the surface as being nothing but a shameless Zelda clone but it does have a lot to offer. From its large open world, 10 full dungeons, and tons of items, it’s a great play for those who have explored everything Hyrule has to offer and are looking for a new spin on the genre.

6 – Sonic the Hedgehog

Top 10 game hệ thống sega master năm 2022

When the original Sonic the Hedgehog was released on the Sega Genesis it was a revolutionary moment in gaming. Almost overnight, Sega had a mascot that could go toe to toe with Nintendo’s Mario and they wanted to make it obvious that Sonic meant Sega. That meant bringing the Blue Blur onto Sega’s other consoles, meaning the 8-bit Master System. Of course, the 16-bit game couldn’t simply be brought to the weaker hardware so changes needed to be made. The result is a game that, while definitely ‘fast’ by 8-bit standards was more focused on traditional platforming as opposed to exploration, giving the game a feel all its own, despite sharing a name with the Genesis version.

5 – Land of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse

Top 10 game hệ thống sega master năm 2022

Here’s another game that never came out in North America (the Master System has a lot of those) but it did come to the Game Gear here and it’s the same version so we felt it worthy of highlighting. Sega’s partnership with Disney from the early 1990s was one of the best around for gamers as the company delivered some of the best mascot platformers ever made. Land of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse is no exception, giving us a large, fantastical world to explore with Mickey through the game’s 14 stages. What really helps set it apart though is that Mickey can be powered up with special abilities, giving him access to new areas, giving the game a fair bit of replayability.

4 – Alex Kidd in Miracle World

Top 10 game hệ thống sega master năm 2022

Before there was Sonic, there was Alex Kidd. Sega’s original mascot was a big deal on the Master System, getting a handful of games for the platform, each of which is special in its own way. But since we had to pick one for this list we decided to go with the original game and pick Alex Kidd in Miracle World. The game is a standout 8-bit platformer that sadly many seem to have skipped over in an era dominated by Mario. And while Sonic would speed along to replace Alex Kidd as of the Genesis there’s plenty of reasons to go back to this classic. Oh, and the game recently got a full remake on modern consoles, making it more accessible than ever. So check that out if you’re curious.

3 – Psycho Fox

Top 10 game hệ thống sega master năm 2022

Hey look, it’s another 2D platformer! The Sega Master System was absolutely loaded with this kind of game meaning that it takes a really special title to stand out among the crowd. Psycho Fox is one such game. Developed by Vic Tokai and published by Sega, the game may seem like a generic mascot platformer on the cover but sets itself apart in how the main character, the titular fox, can transform into other animals, giving him new abilities to traverse the game’s stages. It’s an interesting design, one that predates Kirby’s Adventure by several years making it one of the more creative 2D platformers out there.

2 – Wonder Boy III: The Dragon’s Trap

Top 10 game hệ thống sega master năm 2022

We’ve come to the #2 spot on this countdown and are ready to reveal the very best 2D platformer on the Sega Master System and it’s a true classic. Wonder Boy III: The Dragon’s Trap by Wetstone and Sega may have flown under the radar when it was originally released but over the years, a new appreciation for it has grown, in no small part to the excellent remake we got in 2017. So what makes this game so great? Well the level design is memorable and creative, the visuals charming and inviting, the soundtrack fresh and bobby, and the challenge is both going to put you through your paces but in a fair way. While you’ll often see games like Super Mario Bros. 3 and Mega Man 2 top best platformer lists, Wonder Boy III: The Dragon’s Trap should be considered among the top titles.

1 – Phantasy Star

Top 10 game hệ thống sega master năm 2022

Going through this list we’ve seen a lot of shooters, a lot of action games, and a LOT of platformers. But not a lot of RPGs. Sadly for the Master System, most major role-playing games of the era stuck with Nintendo with Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior calling that platform home. But Sega did have an ace up its sleeve in the form of the excellent Phantasy Star. The game was unique in that it blended both fantasy and science-fiction elements to create something that looked and felt unlike anything else with players tasked with exploring multiple planets on their way to save their entire solar system.  Setting aside though, the gameplay was also top-notch, with plenty of dungeons to explore and locations to visit, all tied together with an excellent combat system that was heads and shoulders above its contemporaries over on the NES. All this comes together to make Phantasy Star our pick for the best game on the Master System.
