Filing Date for the 2023-2024 FAFSA
Beginning October 1, 2022 you could submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid [FAFSA] for the 2023-2024 school year. The FAFSA is the application for federal student assistance. You do not need to have been admitted to CUNY to apply for financial aid. You can apply online by going clicking here . For assistance in completing your FAFSA call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FED-AID [1-800-433-3243].
Send in the FAFSA as soon as possible after October 1, 2022 . You do not have to wait until your taxes are done, although it’s better to do your taxes early and file your FAFSA after that. If you file before your taxes are completed it is ok to use estimates of your income and you will have an opportunity to correct any information later.
If you applied for aid the previous year you can fill out a Renewal FAFSA by clicking here . This application contains information from the 2023-2024 FAFSA. You will need your FSA ID. If you have forgotten your username or password, don’t worry. On the log-in pages, you’ll find links that give you the option of retrieving your username or password through your verified e-mail address or by successfully answering your challenge questions.
Your eligibility for financial aid may change, especially if you have a different number of family members in college. Your financial aid package also depends on your making satisfactory academic progress toward a degree, such as earning a minimum number of credits and achieving a minimum GPA.
For New York State Residents
Once you complete the FAFSA online you will get to the FAFSA on the “Web Confirmation” page. Click on the link for New York State residents and you will be directed to the New York State Higher Education
Services Corporation [HESC] website in order to fill out your TAP application. If you miss the link for TAP, within 3-4 days you should receive either an email or a postcard with instructions on how to file TAP on the Web application. If you fill out a paper FAFSA, you will be notified via email or a postcard on how to complete your TAP application several weeks after your FAFSA has been processed.
Note: To fill out and submit your FAFSA is FREE. There are websites and services not
associated with the federal government that will charge you to fill out your FAFSA. You don’t have to pay anyone for assistance and there are many free resources for help, such as the Federal Student Aid Information Center by calling [800] 433-3243 and the college you plan on attending.
