Why is my Toshiba Satellite laptop so slow?

Hi, I had something like yours until sat on it. Inherently slow no matter what you do to it. Would be a great Linux Mint/Cinnamon laptop.

[Look up Videos on that].

What Anti-Virus are you using ?

I would suggest going up to your Support Page and grab anything that you have not installed including BIOS : //support.dynabook.com/support/modelHome?freeText=1200008263&osId=3333785 find info needed to get into site from the bottom of the laptop.

then :

From the Keyboard press the Windows Key and the X Key and choose Powershell [Admin] OR START | type cmd.exe into the start search box | RIGHT-click on cmd.exe | select "Run as Administrator" then Copy/Paste --> : %SystemRoot%\System32\Cmd.exe /c Cleanmgr /sageset:65535 & Cleanmgr /sagerun:65535 then Enter, select all and sit back. It opens MS Disk Cleanup and cleans up more.

Then :

just because as this should be run monthly as part of maintenance, please do this to see if it fixes any issue [note always backup and make restore points] : From the Keyboard press the Windows Key and the X Key and choose Powershell [Admin] OR for a DOS Command Prompt from START | type cmd.exe into the start search box | RIGHT-click on cmd.exe | select "Run as Administrator" then Copy/Paste --> :
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth command then Enter
if it finds problems then reboot. [Completed Successfully : means reboot]
For more information about this command please see : //www.windowscentral.com/how-use-dism-command-line-utility-repair-windows-10-image
After : please Open another Admin Command Prompt and please run Copy/Paste --> SFC /SCANNOW into the Dos window or Powershell and Enter. Reboot after.
The 1st goes up to Microsoft for new files if any are found to be corrupted. The 2nd will then check it self and update it self and fix issues if found.

Then:

Now your ready to go here and press the 1st Button : //www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 and update to the latest version which is very stable.

Suggest Defrag if it is a mechanical drive

It's pretty easy to use up 6 GB of RAM these days, is that what you have, because that's what it shows on the official page?

Don't throw it away, though it is a Toshiba haha, those are pretty okay specs and would run very well with an SSD, but you should be able to get it running well enough like it is also. It very well could be it is not up to the demand that you need but I would guess that there are other issues.

Why don't you run the DISM Tool and System File Checker to see if there are any broken files.

DISM and SFC Tutorial

Before running any Diagnostics it is best to Image your Drive or at least Back-up all your important files if possible. These tools are pretty safe so I will let you decide. Make sure to be connected to the Internet first.

Run the DISM Tool as Administrator to Repair the Image. Click on Menu and type cmd or Command, when the Command Prompt comes up right click on it and choose More > Run as administrator

Copy Paste the below command and press Enter

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Then run the System File Checker the same way

sfc /scannow

It may take an hour or so to run so be prepared. Do not stop it till it finishes.

If sfc /scannow finds errors run it two more times to make sure they are repaired. Reboot the computer between each run.
