3ce slim velvet lip color review

3CE Gotta Sing Slim Velvet Lip Color [$17.42] is one of five, limited edition shades that launched with the Mood for Blossom Spring 2019 Collection in March!

I’m not a big, big fan of the Slim Velvet Lip Color formula since I don’t like mattes but some of the shades that launched with Spring 2019 Collection were so pretty I couldn’t resist grabbing a shade or two especially

Gotta Sing that’s a bright, juicy tangerine!

I dunno if I look good in them but I have a heck of a good time with tangerine lipsticks! I especially like hauling out all my bright, bold tangerine shades in the Summer! Gotta Sing is most definitely one! This is a gorgeous true orange tangerine that’s bold, rich, and opaque on a single layer. The color brings back really good memories of the Etude House Miss Tangerine Collection!

3CE Gotta Sing Slim Velvet Lip Color are just that! A slim line lipstick that travels and stores easily. The packaging is a fun orange-y shade to go along with the limited edition Mood in Blossom Collection. Typically, these are housed in a black case but for the Spring 2019 launch they had some fun, special edition packaging.

I’m not a big, big fan of the finish on Slim Velvet Lip Color though as they are a drier matte that applies a little draggy but has a surprisingly smooth, lightweight finish on lips that isn’t hydrating but not terribly drying either as you’d expect from the texture. I can get a solid five hours of wear without migration issues and some staining is left behind as color begins to fade. These lipsticks have no fragrance nor any flavor. I always find this formula an odd contrast as the application isn’t as creamy as I would like but the drier finish doesn’t adhere to my dry lips or fall into my natural lip lines. It always looks quite smooth.

The color is the real joy and what drew me into purchasing a few shades. The Spring 2019 shades are quite fun and fresh and should work well in the Summer ahead! That might something that interests you even of the matte finish doesn’t. Although, I do wish they went with something shinier and glossier for Spring but that would really be veering away from 3CE’s traditional gradient lip look.

3CE Gotta Sing Slim Velvet Lip Color is big on color but the matte finish might be questionable for some!

3CE Slim Velvet Lip Color in Gotta Sing is one of five limited edition Spring 2019 matte lipstick shades that launched with the Mood in Blossom Collection. This formula is a little stiff and does tug a bit during application but does have a very smooth finish that doesn’t adhere to drier areas nor does color fall into natural lines. It’s a very bold, bright, rich shade of tangerine that wears for a solid five hours without migration of feathering issues and has some staining after it fades. The finish is matte but not terribly dry but not hydrating either.

I am not big on lip colours as compared to the other components of makeup like foundations and eyeliners. So in a cosmetics store, I usually breeze past the lipstick aisle.

I have been making do with a coloured lip tint from Innisfree, and on lazy days just the trusty Nivea lip balm.

On my last trip to Korea though, I came across the Slim Velvet lipsticks at the 3CE store. 3CE is the makeup brand under Stylenanda, a fashion label not unfamiliar to K-fashion lovers. It is no surprise that the 3CE/Stylenanada store display is ultra Insta-worthy and decked out in neon light tubes and cute decor, a big draw to the many tourists in the Myeongdong area. I was beginning to feel like I needed a nice lipstick while travelling in ultra fashion-conscious Seoul, so I picked this pale pink shade [Sand Lily] to try out:

There are 15 shades in total in this line, this is probably the palest of them. I like that it is quite affordable as compared to the other products I’ve seen so far, at less than S$20. The slim black tube is also chic and lightweight, easy enough to slip into small totes or clutches. And so it was added to my cosmetics loot from Seoul back to Singapore!

After using

I personally don’t really like rich, thick lipsticks – they make me feel like there’s a layer of oil on my lips and I have to consciously stop the urge of wiping it off. Also hate how using these lipsticks mean leaving an obvious stain on cups and mugs [this is my minor OCD talking haha].

This 3CE lip colour though, is the complete opposite. It actually made my lips feel dryer than they were!

After application, I don’t feel anything on my lips, but I can see that the matte colour is showing quite clearly on the lips. Just two or three swipes around the lips is enough.

After just two light swipes on the wrist!

After a while, I actually started to feel that the lips were feeling dryer than usual. It could be because I am used to having light lip balm on almost all the time, so to not feel anything on the lips was weird in another way. I definitely agree with some reviewers to pair this with a lip balm as the base, just choose a colourless or lightly tinted balm so it doesn’t clash with the lip stick colour!
