Wake Dell laptop from sleep with lid closed

I'm using a Dell laptop with a Logitech wireless USB keyboard and mouse. I wanted to run it with the lid closed, using an external HDMI monitor. However, I had a problem waking the laptop up from sleep mode, using the wireless keyboard or mouse. Dell's customer support said it couldn't be done, that it was a limitation of Windows 10, but here's how I eventually did it...

Here are the steps I took to run my Dell Inspiron 3785 laptop with the lid closed, and to let my connected USB wireless keyboard or mouse wake it from sleep.

1. Change the laptop's BIOS to enable USB Wake Support:
a. In the "Windows Settings" or Cortina search box, search for "Change advanced startup options", and select it.
b. Under "Advanced startup", click "Restart now".
c. At the "Choose an option" screen, select "Troubleshoot", then "Advanced options", then UEFI Firmware Settings, and then click the "Restart" button. The PC should reboot into the BIOS utility [InsydeH20 Setup Utility on my laptop].
d. In the main menu, cursor right to "Advance", then cursor down to "USB Wake Support". Enable this option so a USB device [e.g. mouser and/or keyboard] can wake the PC.
e. Save Changes and Exit the BIOS utility to restart Windows.

2. Configure the keyboard and mouse for wake up in Windows Device Manager:
a. In Control Panel, Device Manager, under Keyboards, right-click "HID Keyboard Device" [HID means USB], and select "Properties".
b. Click on "Change settings", "Power Management", and make sure the "Allow this device to wake the computer" box is checked.
c. Repeat these steps for "Mice and other pointing devices", for a "HID-compliant mouse".

3. Configure the laptop's lid and wake-up options in Windows Power Options:
a. In Control Panel, Power Options, Advanced settings, under "USB settings", set the USB selective suspend setting for "Plugged in" to "Disabled". This keeps power on to the wireless keyboard & mouse's USB receiver dongle, even in sleep mode.
b. Under "Power buttons and lid", "Lid close action", set both "On battery" and "Plugged in" items to "Do nothing". This lets the laptop continue to run when the lid is closed.
c. Click on Apply or OK to save these changes.
