Media Access Control (MAC) address is a unique identifier assigned to each network adapter of any device. A Linksys router has a Wireless MAC Filter feature that lets you permit or prevent users from accessing the wireless network by blocking or allowing the MAC addresses of computers or devices. This article will guide you on how to configure the Wireless MAC Filter feature on a Linksys router’s web-based setup page to permit or prevent the wireless devices connected to your Linksys Wireless-N Range Extenders (RE1000 and RE3000W). To know how, perform the following steps: i. Obtain the range extender's MAC address NOTE: The steps below will apply to Linksys RE1000 and RE3000W v1 ONLY. The first two (2) steps above are done on the range extender’s web-based setup page while the last one (1) is on the router’s web-based setup page. Obtain the Global and Virtual MAC addresses The Global and Virtual MAC addresses are obtained from all wireless computers or devices that are connected to the range extender. NOTE: A MacBook®’s Global and Virtual MAC addresses are used in this example. Step 2: Step 3: • Prevent PCs listed below from accessing the wireless network - computers on the MAC Address Filter List will not have access to the wireless network. • Permit PCs listed below to access the wireless network - only computers on the MAC Address Filter List will have access to the wireless network. NOTE: In this example, the MAC address values that you will enter in the list will be prevented from accessing the wireless network.
