2023 BMW 7 Series M750e price

BMW’s range-topping 7 Series sedan gets a complete makeover, including its first-ever all-electric version. Bursting with power and cutting-edge technology, the 2023 7 Series carries a substantial starting price of $93,300.

The 2023 BMW 7 Series gets a total redesign that ushers in more performance, a higher degree of technology, added comfort touches, and the model’s first electric-powered version. While it’s not scheduled to hit dealerships until later this year, BMW is already taking orders for the electric i7 xDrive60.

In an era of large and luxurious SUVs, BMW remains true to its flagship sedan. Now in its seventh generation, the 2023 7 Series has a much bolder exterior than before, including a massive front grille and tiered headlights. The new 7 Series will stand out in a crowd, though the brash design might not appeal to everyone.

Inside, the 7 Series has a dashboard dominated by two large curved screens mounted flush with each other. One serves as a digital gauge display, while the other is the hub for the car’s infotainment system. In fact, touchscreen or touch-sensitive surfaces are everywhere you look in the 2023 7 Series, including on the center console and even the front and rear door panels.

With one notable exception, one area that isn’t dramatically different from the previous 7 Series is the choice of turbocharged inline-6 or a turbo V8 under the hood of this luxury sedan. The 740i is motivated by a 375-horsepower 3.0-liter inline-6 that sends power to the rear wheels courtesy of an 8-speed automatic transmission.

For added performance and standard all-wheel-drive (AWD), the 760i xDrive has a 536-horsepower twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 paired to the same 8-speed gearbox. Each of these powertrains has a 48-volt mild-hybrid system to help increase efficiency and improve fuel economy.

The biggest news is the introduction of the i7 xDrive60, the first fully-electrified version of the 7 Series in its decades-long history. The combined output of the i7’s two electric motors is 536 horsepower, while the estimated driving range is said to be around 300 miles per charge.

Direct rivals to the 2023 7 Series include the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Mercedes-Benz EQS, the Audi A8, Tesla Model S, and Porsche Panamera.

2023 BMW 7 Series Pricing

The 2023 BMW 740i in base format has a starting price of $93,300, though a fully-loaded i7 xDrive60 electric version can easily exceed $120,000.

While that’s undoubtedly expensive, it’s on par with rivals from the likes of Tesla, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and Porsche. Taking both the gasoline-powered Mercedes-Benz S-Class and electric Porsche Taycan as examples, it’s possible to nudge both of their price tags to approximately $200,000 when scaling up to the highest trims of each vehicle.

With all-wheel drive being such a popular option, we wouldn’t be surprised if many 7 Series shoppers opted for the mid-range 760i. With an asking price of $113,600, it has the bigger horsepower figure and extra all-season grip that luxury sedan shoppers demand.

Driving the 2023 BMW 7 Series

At the time of writing, we’re still awaiting our chance to get behind the wheel of the 2023 7 Series range, including the i7 EV.

The biggest question mark probably hangs over the dynamics of the i7 electric model, since it’s an entirely new addition and pitted against impressive competition such as the Tesla Model S, Mercedes-Benz EQS, Audi e-tron GT, and Porsche Taycan.

Stay tuned, and check back for our complete driving impressions.

Interior Comfort

The 2023 BMW 7 Series interior shines with all the fine quality leather, metal, and wood trim you expect in a sedan with a starting price approaching six digits. A material BMW calls Veganza serves as the base seating surface in the 740i. This faux leather is offered in four colors and has a quilted diamond-pattern design.

Stepping up to either the 760i or i7 brings along Merino leather seating surface, not to mention an even wider array of wood, stainless steel, and carbon-fiber cabin trim options. There is even the option to have a combination of leather and cashmere seating — if everything else sounds far too common for your discerning tastes.

In terms of sheer space, rear legroom measures in at 43.3 inches for both the 740i and 760i, while the i7 is slightly more snug at 42.8 inches. This disparity holds true in terms of cargo volume, too. While the 740i and 760i deliver 13.7 cubic feet of trunk volume, this dips to 11.4 cubic feet in the i7.

Exterior Styling

Seen from behind and in profile, the 2023 7 Series has a planted stance and broad-shouldered look that doesn’t stray far from the general shape of the outgoing version. From the front, however, you face BMW’s ever-increasingly-large twin-kidney front grille and a tiered front lighting system.

The standard adaptive LED headlights are positioned in the middle and directly to either side of the gargantuan grille. Above it is a light bar that serves a multi-function role as daytime running lights, side marker lights, and turn indications.

You can substitute this light bar with an optional system that uses Swarovski crystals and 22 LED units to create an especially dramatic and distinctive lighting signature.

For even more exterior flashiness, you might want to order the 7 Series with an illuminated front grille and wheels ranging up to 21 inches in diameter.

Favorite Features

EXECUTIVE LOUNGE PACKAGE
This turns the rear seat of the new 7 Series into the equivalent of a private jet, minus the wings. This includes power-reclining rear seats fitted with a massage function and individually adjustable neck cushions.

BMW THEATER SCREEN WITH AMAZON FIRE TV
The optional BMW Theater Screen includes a rear-entertainment 8K touchscreen that stretches 31.3 inches. It drops down from the ceiling and can be used for gaming or watching programs from streaming services like Netflix, YouTube, and Hulu.

When you use the screen, which has Amazon Fire TV, the sunshades for the panoramic glass roof, side windows, and rear window are all closed, and the rear ambient lighting dims. The only thing missing is a built-in popcorn machine.

Standard Features

The entry-level 740i sedan wouldn’t qualify as all that basic for many car shoppers, thanks to its impressive roster of standard comfort, safety, and tech touches. Standard features include a 14.9-inch touchscreen, quad-zone climate control, faux leather seating surfaces, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, a panoramic glass roof, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, onboard Wi-Fi hot spot, and 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system.

The standard BMW Curved Display is the most apparent cabin upgrade over the previous 7 Series, thanks to the wide infotainment screen positioned flush with the digital instrument display ahead of the driver.

Also spanning the dashboard is what BMW calls the Interaction Bar. It features a backlit crystalline surface with integrated touch controls to adjust the heating and ventilation, turn on the hazard lights, and open the glovebox.

Factory Options

At this level of the automotive world, the sky is seemingly the limit when it comes to adding a dizzying array of features to an already powerful and opulent German luxury sedan.

We’ve already mentioned the Executive Lounge package with its reclining rear seats, integrated leg rests, and adjustable neck cushions for anyone who wants to prioritize rear-seat comfort levels. This is the 7 Series option we’re certain will be popular with BMW owners who maintain a chauffeur on their payroll.

The available rear-entertainment system is another crowd-pleasing option, at least for lucky movie buffs who happen to nestle in the second row. Measuring in at 31.3 inches, the 8K touchscreen is expansive and comes paired to a Bowers & Wilkins surround-sound system with touchscreen remotes positioned in the door panels.

And if manual opening or closing the front or rear doors is too much of a hassle, BMW offers optional automatic doors. These open by simply touching the flush-mounted exterior handles, and close with a push of a screen located on the dash or on each rear door panel.

Engine & Transmission

The 2023 7 Series arrives with three powertrain choices, including the all-new electric system found in the i7 model.

The standard 740i carries a 375-horsepower turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 that sends power to the rear wheels courtesy of an 8-speed automatic transmission. The 740i is strictly a rear-wheel-drive proposition, though that doesn’t exactly slow it down when you need to make a quick getaway. According to BMW’s stopwatch, the 740i accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds.

Added performance and standard all-wheel drive (AWD) are included when you trade up to the 760i xDrive. Under the hood is a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 that produces 536 horsepower. With this engine, the 7 Series needs only 4.1 seconds for the same zero to 60 mph acceleration run.

Last but certainly not least, especially in this burgeoning era of electrification, the i7 xDrive60 is equipped with two electric motors, one located at each axle, and a 101.7-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Total output is the equivalent to 536 horsepower — which you might notice is equal to what’s provided in the gasoline-fed 760i. BMW estimates this all-electric 7 Series will have a range of approximately 300 miles.

When it comes to straight-line speed, the i7 fits right in the middle of the lineup. BMW estimates its zero-emission luxury sedan takes 4.5 seconds to whoosh its way from zero to 60 mph in near silence.

According to BMW, the i7’s standard DC fast charging allows it to add 80 miles of driving range in only 10 minutes. To sweeten its EV deal, BMW also includes three years of unlimited charging sessions at Electrify America charging stations across the U.S.

At the time of writing, the EPA has still not tested the fuel economy or range ratings of the 2023 BMW 7 Series lineup.

KBB Vehicle Review and Rating Methodology

Our Expert Ratings come from hours of both driving and number crunching to make sure that you choose the best car for you. We comprehensively experience and analyze every new SUV, car, truck, or minivan for sale in the U.S. and compare it to its competitors. When all that dust settles, we have our ratings.

We require new ratings every time an all-new vehicle or a new generation of an existing vehicle comes out. Additionally, we reassess those ratings when a new-generation vehicle receives a mid-cycle refresh — basically, sprucing up a car in the middle of its product cycle (typically, around the 2-3 years mark) with a minor facelift, often with updates to features and technology.

Rather than pulling random numbers out of the air or off some meaningless checklist, KBB’s editors rank a vehicle to where it belongs in its class. Before any car earns its KBB rating, it must prove itself to be better (or worse) than the other cars it’s competing against as it tries to get you to spend your money buying or leasing.

Our editors drive and live with a given vehicle. We ask all the right questions about the interior, the exterior, the engine and powertrain, the ride and handling, the features, the comfort, and of course, about the price. Does it serve the purpose for which it was built? (Whether that purpose is commuting efficiently to and from work in the city, keeping your family safe, making you feel like you’ve made it to the top — or that you’re on your way — or making you feel like you’ve finally found just the right partner for your lifestyle.)

We take each vehicle we test through the mundane — parking, lane-changing, backing up, cargo space and loading — as well as the essential — acceleration, braking, handling, interior quiet and comfort, build quality, materials quality, reliability.
