Ford Mustang History:

Ford Motor Company has been making the Ford Mustang since 1965. The first generation ran from 1964 to 1973, producing a total of 5,300 cars.

The Mustang name was inspired by the P-51 fighter plane that helped gain Allied air superiority during World War II. At noon, the first car rolled off the assembly line on March 9, 1964.

The second generation of Mustangs ran from 1974 to 1978, with a total of 1,800 cars being produced.

In 2005 when production stopped, they gave out a Heritage Edition Mustang, reminiscent of some earlier models, including the ’65 Shelby GT350 replica.

They also offered up three limited-edition Mustang GTs celebrating the anniversary of each decade, starting with the 1960s, followed by the 1970s and 1980s. These commemorative editions all featured retro styling cues combined with modern engine performance.

The sixth generation of Mustangs was released in 2014. It included a series called 50 Years Of Mustang, which consisted of 50 different models (one for each year) to celebrate fifty years of continuous production.

These models used high-tech materials like aluminum frames and composite body panels, lightweight chassis components, and LED lighting.

The seventh-generation Mustang debuted at the Detroit North American International Auto Show in 2015. It will be based on an updated S550 platform developed for the 2016 Ford Taurus.
