Ki is a term used to refer to a living thing's life force. While every person has it, training to increase the capacity of one's ki allows them to reach inhuman levels of strength, speed, and skill. In Dragon Ball FighterZ, it is also an essential resource to have. The meter at the bottom of the screen shows how much Ki the player has. It can be filled by performing an Energy Charge, dealing or taking damage to the foe, or simply advancing toward them. Once the meter is filled, it will reset, and the number to the side of the Gauge will increase. This is to show the player has a full meter of Ki. A player can have up to seven meters at once. Ki is used for many critical actions in the game, such as:

  • Performing a Vanish Attack
  • Performing heavy variants of special moves
  • Performing Super Attacks
  • Performing a Guard Cancel
As of the recently released Season 3, all heavy variants of moves only cost half a gauge to use. All pages may not be updated yet, please keep that in mind if they say it costs a full meter. Even better, please consider editing it to be correct.

This is the default control scheme for players who are using a PS4 controler, with the Xbox One controls being listed in brackets. They are as follows:

Light Attack = Square [X] Medium Attack = Triangle [Y] Heavy Attack = Circle [B] Special Attack = X [A] Z Assist 1 = L1 [LB] Z Assist 2 = L2 [LT] Z Change 1 = (Hold) L1 [LB] Z Change 2 = (Hold) L2 [LT] Super Dash (SD) = R2 [RT] (Or you can press Special Attack and Heavy Attack together) Dragon Rush(DR) = R1 [RB] (Or you can press Light Attack and Medium Attack together) Sparking Blast = R1+R2 [RB+RT] (Or you can press the Light, Medium, Heavy, and Special Attacks together) Ki Charge = X+Square [A+X] (Special Attack + Light Attack)

For reference throughout this guide, the following abbreviations will be used.

DR = Dragon Rush SD = Super Dash SP = Special Attack ATK = Any of the 3 main attack buttons (light, medium, heavy)
  • EX = Heavy version of a special (Costs 1 bar to use)

What? Going off the default controls L1 is how you call in your assist1. To charge ki is L+ki. A lvl 3 is Qcb L+M Go into training mode as I honestly have no clue what you're asking but I'm sure it shows what you're looking for.

In the game of life it's a good idea to have a few early losses, which relieves you of the pressure of trying to maintain an undefeated season.GT: Sm0oth Legacy

Knowing how to charge Ki is crucial in Dragon Ball FighterZ as it gives you more tools at your disposal. While you gain energy by simply dealing damage to your enemies, you can quickly gain Ki by charging.

To charge Ki in Dragon Ball FighterZ, simply hold Square + X on PS4 or X + A on Xbox One. This will gradually charge your super meter, but leaves you vulnerable to attacks. All attacks during the charge state also registers as a counter hit. Because of this, make sure you’re standing far from enemies and keep an eye out for surprise attacks.

Charging your Ki helps you quickly gain an edge against enemies, as it allows you to quickly gain energy without having to go up close and personal. You can have up to seven stocks of Ki.

Having enough Ki gives you an advantage in battle, as you can consume one stock of Ki to perform teleport attacks for quick cross ups or deal punishing super moves that allow you to extend combos. You can also press the assist button while performing a super move to make your chosen teammate continue with another super before switching in.
