NYU Spring 2021 Transfer

July 15, 2020, 9:43 am

Hello guys, recently I have applied to NYU for undergraduate admissions. I was rejected and will be a freshman in the fall. However, I’m not not giving up and wanted to try to transfer. Can someone talk to me about their process if they had transferred before and when I should begin my application. Just need some advice. Thank you!

What do I do??????

November 10, 2020, 8:59 am

So I'm currently a sophomore (class of 2023) at a T20 school in the South, and I'm seeking advice on whether to transfer from my school. I committed here because I thought it would help me get a better job in the future (and it was the only T20 school where I was accepted), and I really only applied in the first place because I got a free application, so I thought "why not?"

I am a linguistics/psychology double major, and the college I currently attend for that (for lack of other words) sucks. I want to study psycholinguistics, computational linguistics, or something along those lines, but there's not a lot of people who have done something like that or opportunities for being a research assistant here, and I'm looking for to go somewhere where I can accomplish that.

The end of my senior year of high school, I was waitlisted at five schools (among them were Barnard, WashU in St. Louis, and UNC Chapel Hill). I really, really wanted to attend Barnard, and so I sent their admissions committee multiple follow-up letters after I had been waitlisted as well as additional recommendations from teachers, my high school counselor, and a friend. With no response to any of those additional letters, I was rejected the following July. I went into my first semester thinking that I would just be there for one year and transfer to Barnard the next year. My grades weren't absolutely terrible, but they also weren't stellar - I was going through mental health problems and was also trying to deal with a toxic friendship. When college started, I told myself my unhappiness would end when I left. I applied for transfer my second semester of freshman year. I was rejected by Barnard, but I did get into WashU (where I had previously been waitlisted and rejected after sending follow-up letters) and Tufts (where I had been previously accepted and probably should have attended freshman year). It was super upsetting to get rejected again by Barnard, and WashU and Tufts would not provide any financial assistance, so I had to stay at my current institution. I had a lot of trouble getting professors to sign papers, especially at a time when the world was falling into chaos. Later over the summer, I learned that more than one of my professors had not signed my Mid-Term report despite me asking them to WEEKS in advance. My mid-term report showed up as "waived" on Barnard's application. I have NO clue if this may have contributed to that rejection, but it certainly did not make me feel any better.

It's sophomore year now, and I'm still VERY unhappy with the quality of education I'm receiving. I want to attend a college I'm actually excited to go to and get involved with. But I've noticed that if I were to risk my happiness for one more year, I could graduate early. While I'd be saving a ton of money that I could use to apply to law school in the future, I'd still be receiving a degree from a school I HATE. What should I do? I seriously want to leave the college I attend, but is it worth it? Should I just put a pause on my goal of being happy and shove it into the future for law school? I feel like I'm the only one not having a good time in college, even though I should be. The transfer process was an exhausting nightmare, but I'd do it again if it meant I could go to a school where I would be happier and could get more experience with both linguistics and psychology. I feel like I might be leaving a lot out, but any advice you may have is GREATLY appreciated.

Columbia Transfer Fall 2021

October 11, 2020, 5:49 am

Hey all, I am currently a student who is attending his sophomore year at the SUNY at Albany. My grades when submitting my transfer application will be somewhere around 3.7~3.75, and will retake the SAT's. I will likely get somewhere between the 1490-1500 bracket, since I have regularly tested close to 1600 on mock exams. Since I am an international student, I have only done one internship, under a local congresswoman. Besides that, I have performed as part of the Musical Theatre Association in our university, and participated in the Jiujitsu Club. How does my chances look? Should I just not bother submitting my application?

Extracurricular Activities for UC Application

November 13, 2020, 1:47 am

I am currently in the process of filling my UC application. But I am unsure regarding a couple of factors. I am currently a California community college student, so I'll be transferring.
Regarding the awards and activities section of the application, I have 2 questions.

- Can I mention awards/ ECs I've already talked about in my personal statements, such as educational opportunities?

- Most of my ECs I've done come from my HS days, can I still mention my EC accomplishments I've done during my HS years, or does it strictly have to be during my time in community college?

Applying to USC, Boston University, NYU, UPITT Business Schools as a Transfer! What are my chances?

November 11, 2020, 7:55 pm

Hi I am applying to all the schools mentioned above and I am currently a freshman in my first semester still and will apply as a transfer sophomore applicant. By the end of the year I will have 32 units. My first semester GPA will be 3.88-3.94 around there. My second semester GPA however, will be around, a 3.94-4.00 GPA. What do you think my chances are to getting into these business schools? These college are not factoring in my high school GPA and SAT scores as well. So please someone help me out about my chances as I really scared haha! Please do let me know as soon as you can! And I am also currently enrolled as a Freshman at San Jose State University and in the business school here currently if that helps!

Transferring from Community College to Top B-School

November 12, 2020, 6:52 pm

Hello everyone,

I will be completing my third semester at a community college in Illinois this upcoming Spring with the hopes of transferring for Fall 2021. I have a 4.0 GPA, and I am confident in my ability to maintain it there. I plan to have 45 credit hours completed at the date of transfer.

My high school grades are poor. I finished with a 2.9 GPA. However, I received my high school diploma about 4 years ago at the age of 16 (I went to school in the UK), so I hope that it will not carry much weight in the admissions process.

I have not engaged in ECs much, as I have been studying full-time and working full-time as well. I signed up for the chess club at my college, but my class and work schedule interfere with their hours, so I haven't been attending any of the sessions.

I will most likely be able to get one or two strong letters of recommendation from my professors.

My main question is: What are my chances of transferring to the following, or similar, universities to study finance or economics, given my lack of ECs and poor high school grades?

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (in-state), Vanderbilt University, University of Notre Dame, University of Southern California, WUSTL, and Cornell University.

If there is anything else that I could add, please let me know.

Transfer US to Canada with pre-med?

November 13, 2020, 9:49 am

Hello all,

I really would like to transfer to Canada for university! I am currently a biochemistry pre-med major in Ohio. I am only a first year, but came in with 45 credits from high school. I read that the medical school process in Canada is very similar to that of the US, so I was hoping it would be possible for me to follow this path if I transferred. I got a 30 on the ACT and finished with a 4.2 weighted GPA in high school. I should have around a 3.8 from my first year in college.

I sincerely have a problem with the privatized healthcare system in the US- I want to be a part of something like that of what Canada has. If I could do anything I would want to be in the UK, but Canada is a more reasonable option for me.

I would be moving with my girlfriend who would do cosmetology school there, so I would commute to whatever school I go to. We have been saving up to do something like this.

1. How should I go about the application process? I am assuming I can't use common app. When do I need to apply to be a part of 2021 fall semester?

2. What schools would be good for pre-med that are still affordable (I'm looking for hopefully under 17k US dollars a year, as I only pay 8k at the current school I attend). I am willing to take out loans if necessary however.

3. What is the immigration process like? Could I still get a job while going to school in Canada (part-time)?

Cal Poly Pomona Waitlist

September 18, 2020, 2:26 am

So I applied to CPP for Spring 2021 transfer. I applied knowing I didn't meet the minimum requirements since they require 60 units by Summer 2020 and I'll be getting them (67) Fall 2020. I did so since I had 4 free applications so I figured why not. I wasn't expecting to get accepted. I did get, on the 16th, an email saying that I wasn't waitlisted but because of my academic background I am waitlisted. I accepted the waitlist. The FAQs says there isn't anything to do that can bump anything up and there's no rank. What are the odds of getting off the waitlist? What's the likelihood of being accepted?I have 3.86 gpa and am receiving 4 AA's at the end of this term.

Afraid to transfer (West Chester U)

November 15, 2020, 4:56 pm

Hey guys. I'm currently a sophomore at a state school in PA. My freshman year before we got kicked off because of Covid, was.... well.... eh. I went to the school because I know the locals, and both of my parents went there. I found myself not really talking to the townspeople I already knew at all. I spent 9/10 of my time, in my dorm either studying or sleeping. Maybe partying on the weekend (pre-covid). I found it very hard to make friends on campus. A. lot of people were just hard to get along with (I know I'm not the only one who felt this way, my neighbor down the hall agreed with me). However last semester I joined my fraternity. They're my brothers, I enjoy spending every minute with them, but just my loneliness of freshman year kinda made me set on looking at my options (my. chapter is VERY small too, greek life is done where I'm currently at). I decided to apply to transfer to West Chester U next fall (2021). I got accepted! I love the campus, there IS a chapter of my fraternity there. I'd be commuting from my aunts house who is like 20 mins away from campus (I'd have the house to myself). But I would have to take sophomore year over again and be in class of '24 (pre business protocol I guess). I committed for next fall because I was told I had to do it within 30 days of being accepted (I can always withdraw but). I'm so stuck. Every time I look at pictures of my campus I'm currently at, I get all disappointed that I'll prob be leaving. But then I think about why I wanted to transfer (those days/nights where I sat around, nothing to do). But when I go to hang out there over the summers I think of all the friends that I won't see (but then I realize they never hit me up during the fall or winter). My family is thrilled to have me going to West Chester however. I see it as an opportunity to meet more people, have my brotherhood (the fraternity) and be close to family. (Plus there's always something going on down there it seems). Has anyone transferred to West Chester before on here? If so, how was it? Did you regret your decision? And if not West Chester, any other schools y'all have transferred to and feeling the same way as me? Any advice would be HUGE. Thanks!

Chance me for Transfer

November 16, 2020, 4:12 am

I'm currently a freshman at a top 30 state school which ranks 11th for my major. However, I have decided to apply for a transfer for 2021 as the major I want is not offered at my current uni and I don't think it is competitive enough for me. I want to major in something in the social sciences and was wondering if anyone could chance me for transferring to Duke, Upenn and Columbia or provide any advice?
I have a current 4.0 GPA from the summer semester and am expecting 4.0 for the Fall as well with one course as Pass/Fail. I have a 1450 in the SAT and wished to retake it but couldn't due to covid issues. My high school GPA is 3.93 and I am involved in a ton of extra curricular activities in college which include research at Harvard, 3 Student Govt positions and an Editor for my college's top newspaper. I also served as the Chair in my uni's MUN and am a blogger for their website as well.
I really love my current institution and am only applying to 3 schools because I know those are the only ones where I can be happier than I am right now. Can anyone tell me how my chances are for transfer to these schools? I'm really worried cus of my low SAT score and lack of subject tests. Do you have any advice?
P.S I'm expecting really strong recommendations from my professors and an average additional rec from my research supervisor. I'd rate my essays 9/10 too.

Junior or Senior transfer to HAAS Berkeley

November 16, 2020, 7:32 pm

Hello Everyone,

Right now I'm in CA community college. Applying for HAAS Berkeley for fall 2021.
I have 75 credits right now & by end of Summer 2021, I might have 90 credits.

Q1. So can I apply as a senior transfer or should I have to apply as a junior transfer (since all my coursework is from CA community college)?

Q2. If I have to apply as a junior transfer what is the maximum number of credits that'll be acceptable at HAAS? For the extra credits done at CC, will there be any sort of subject credit at all?

Q3. HAAS website says the applicants will be evaluated as below
50% – Grades & Coursework
35% – Essays
15% – Resume

What does Resume comprise of?

Thanks for your time.

MICHIGAN STATE, PENN STATE OR SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY!!!!!

November 17, 2020, 9:09 am

Hi guys so I’m currently a student at Syracuse university and I was looking to transfer schools because attending Syracuse university is very expensive and has taken a toll on my family. So I did my research on schools and found Michigan and penn state and I fell in love with both of them. However recently Syracuse just gave me a few more loans and scholarships so I was wondering if I should just stick it out with Syracuse or transfer and which school should I transfer to. I want to major in neuroscience and I know Michigan state has a really good neuroscience program and so does Syracuse however I can only do neuroscience at Syracuse If I double major in biology or psychology and I’m not sure if I want to take on the work load of being a double major. Finally this last part really isn’t that important but it kind of is. I’m a dancer and I want to be on a college dance team. I didn’t try out for the Syracuse dance team because I wanted to get a feel of college first before I commit to a team, but I am ready to join a team for the fall and I know penn state has an amazing dance team, which is why it’s still on my list. I would really appreciate your help guys. 😊

transfer student with a 3.7

November 17, 2020, 12:21 pm

hey guys, I was lookin for some advice (no hate please)
I'm currently a student at a "T20" school with a 3.7. I applied to transfer to two schools last semester with a slightly lower GPA and got rejected.

I don't think my application was very eloquent nor good last semester and I am worried that will negatively affect my transfer chances this year because my reasoning to transfer was phrased poorly (I talked about lack of academic freedom which I could have evaded, stupid, I know).

I want to transfer from my current institution due to a variety of academic and personal reasons including racism, institutionalized homophobia that has become apparent (sorry cough Notre Dame), etc. The location is another significant reason I would like to leave. However, I am worried that some of the schools I am looking at (Penn, Brown, Columbia) may reject me because of my lower GPA. I am not intentionally "prestige chasing" but my family has made a lot of sacrifices for me to attend my current school and 1) I would want to transfer to a university considered better or at the same level as my current school and 2) I want a better location. Should I at least try to transfer at this point? Will they even take students with GPAs below 3.8 seriously (given how many 4.0 applicants there are)?

Transfer essay topic help

November 18, 2020, 8:05 am

I’m hoping to transfer into a 4 year university from community college next fall. I have written my supplemental essays about why I want to transfer to certain schools and what I hope to achieve there. However, 2 of my schools also require the general common app essay that first year applicants use. I don’t know whether to reuse my high school essay about my upbringing (being first gen, immigrant to the US, living in a rough neighborhood, family financial problems) and how that has motivated me to pursue higher education. I would add onto that about how I chose to attend a CC first rather than 4 year. OR should I write a whole new essay focusing on how I did mediocre in a college class but I learned from it and it helped me realize what major I actually want to pursue/what I want to do with my life after college. Any help is appreciated!!

Questions about transferring after completing 2.5 years of college

November 18, 2020, 11:59 am

Hi everyone! This might be a bit of a long post, so please bear with me a little. Currently, I am a junior attending a small (2500 or so) student, highly ranked liberal arts college in the Northeastern US enrolled in a very niche and small major. As such our department and class is (or was) extremely close-knit. Long story short, one individual in my department and I became involved in a highly toxic relationship, in which I was manipulated greatly and resultantly significantly damaged my relationships with others in the class. I ended up returning home early this semester to study remotely as a result of the damage caused by this one individual, and I am currently working to rebuild my relationships with others in the department and am pulling away from the manipulative person. Still, the environment within the department feels extremely toxic, and to me there is no escaping this because of its small size and closeness. Furthermore, my class is set to study abroad next fall and this is causing me significant stress as I will be forced to be abroad with the person (and persons) in a very small, school-run abroad program.

Needless to say, this situation has significantly impacted my mental health to such an extent that I am strongly considering transferring to a larger, but also academically rigorous school preferably in the Midwest or Northeast. I am mostly here to ask about the logistical considerations of transferring at the end of my junior year, and what this would mean concerning graduate school and competitiveness, and also to weigh the benefits and drawbacks of transferring.

My ACT score, taken in the fall of 2017, is a 33. I have maintained a straight 4.0 GPA at my current college (although this might decrease to a 3.95 or so after this semester) and landed a competitive research-based internship this past summer in my desired discipline. I hope to attend graduate school in said discipline and have fostered close relationships with the professors in my department regarding research and graduate study.

In my transfer considerations, I would likely take a leave of absence for mental health this spring (my current school is lenient about these), and also to prepare essays/work on transfer applications. Based on the amount of credits I have at my current college, I would likely need to complete both junior and senior year at whichever university I would transfer in to. Primarily, I am wondering if re-taking junior year at the new university (and graduating in the spring of 2023) would harm my chances of being admitted to graduate programs in my discipline (Russian/Slavic Studies).

I also know that it is rare for students to transfer during their junior year, so I am wondering if this is something that present any kind of challenge for me. I also have not discussed the financial implications of this yet with my family, but fortunately I do not think that would pose much of an issue. In addition, I am wondering if universities will allow for students to transfer if they have completed more than two years of credit, as I've read conflicting information regarding this.

At the moment, I am considering the following universities for transfer, as they have good programs in Russian Studies, and many also have the option to minor in Serbo-Croatian which I have desired to study for many years but is not available at my current college:
- UMich Ann Arbor
- Northwestern University
- Columbia University
- Brown University
- Cornell University

Thanks for taking the time to read through this! Hopefully this makes some sense.

Environmental Studies Major looking for a new college home

November 19, 2020, 8:28 am

Hi friends,

I finished my first year of college at Hope College last year with the notion that I would be pursuing a degree in nursing. At the end of the semester, I decided to transfer to a community college in Ann Arbor, MI to do a 2-year degree instead. Over covid quarantine, I ended up switching majors completely, as I had a greater interest in the environment, but I still intended to take gen-eds at the community college for cheap before I eventually transfer again for my junior year.

I understand that wherever I end up, I will get a great education! I'd still really like some college recommendations for someone wanting to get a degree in environmental studies though. Currently, I am interested in Depaul University, Temple University, and the University of Tennessee Knoxville (my home state).

I'm looking for schools with decent transfer acceptance rates.

Transfer acceptance to Smith? (probability)

November 19, 2020, 11:26 pm

I am a current sophomore and am looking to transfer schools. In HS I had a 3.7 and a 33 ACT, with multiple 4/5 APs scores. I started college at Boston University, but unfortunately, endured some emotional abuse and sexual abuse and had to leave the school. My grades suffered as a result and I ended up with a 3.0. I transferred to my state school because the window to transfer somewhere else had closed and the situation was urgent. At my state school, I have maintained a 3.8 GPA and am in the Honors College. I know that no one can truly predict the future, but does anyone have any insight into what my chances of transferring into a school like Smith are? I am also looking at Bryn Mawr and other similar schools. I believe the environment of these schools is much more suitable for my personality.

Hi everyone,

Perhaps this is a bit premature, but I decided to start this transfer thread for Amherst, Fall 2021.
