Valentine’s Day is almost upon us, and with a still-looming pandemic, there’s no better way to spend the holiday than curled up inside with a good movie. If you don’t have any plans set for Feb. 14, we have just the 10 movies you can stream and fall in love with all kinds of love – romantic, platonic and self. Cr. Sanja Bucko “Crazy Rich Asians”Streaming on HBO Max. There’s a little bit of everything in “Crazy Rich Asians”: luxury, style, humor, scary mothers and, of course, romance. When Rachel (Constance Wu) joins her boyfriend, Nick (Henry Golding), to his best friend’s wedding in Singapore, she’s surprised to learn his family is ultra rich and that everyone wants to get their hands on this bachelor. Not only does she have to navigate this new world, she also has to win over his disapproving mother (Michelle Yeoh). The Jon M. Chu-directed film was a megahit in 2018 and is one you can enjoy time after time (preferably with store-bought chocolates). Cr. Warner Bros. Is there literally anything worse than wondering if the person you have googly eyes for even remotely likes you back? I’m sure there is, but in those moments, it feels like the end of the world. This rom-com, starring some of the biggest names in Hollywood (Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck, Ginnifer Goodwin, Bradley Cooper, Scarlett Johansson, Justin Long, Drew Barrymore), absolutely nails all the stress and pressure related to those moments as several characters navigate through the “is he/she into me?” dilemma. Cr. Universal Pictures “Girls Trip”Streaming on Hulu (with premium subscription) You don’t need a romantic relationship in order to celebrate Valentine’s Day. More often than not, there’s nothing better than being with your best friends, and “Girls Trip” is the movie to pop in. Four best friends (played by Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith and Tiffany Haddish) have grown apart over the years, but a trip to New Orleans ends up being just the thing they needed to rekindle their wild side. But it’s not a trip without a few mishaps, and these ladies get into plenty of them. There’s a whole lot of love in this movie, not to mention scenes that will make you cackle out loud. Cr. New Line Cinema “The Notebook”Streaming on HBO Max. Of course “The Notebook” is going to be on this list because how could it not! You will ugly cry as you relive Allie (Rachel McAdams) and Noah’s (Ryan Gosling) love story and cry even harder when you get to the end of the movie. It’s a tumultuous love story that only Nicholas Sparks could come up with, and Gosling and McAdams bring it to life beautifully. Cr. BEN GLASSWARNER BROS “Crazy; Stupid; Love.”Streaming on HBO Max. Love is a whole lot of things, and crazy and stupid are sometimes the best ways to describe it. Things really get wild in “Crazy; Stupid; Love.” when Cal (Steven Carell) discovers that his wife Emily (Julianne Moore) has been cheating on him and wants a divorce. Feeling completely defeated, he meets Jacob (Ryan Gosling), who, on top of being easy on the eyes, is a self-proclaimed player, and he takes Cal under his wing to teach him his ways. You might not get the best advice from this movie, but it’ll make you laugh and fall even more in love with Gosling than you ever thought possible. Cr. JoJo Whilden Warner Bros. Pictures “How to be Single”Streaming on HBO Max. It doesn’t matter if you’re single or taken on Valentine’s Day because you get to enjoy a great comedy with Dakota Johnson either way. Alice (Johnson) decides that after four years with her college boyfriend, it’s time for a break. In her newfound single life, she moves to New York to take on a new job. Before long, she meets Robin (Rebel Wilson), a woman who knows how to live it up, and she helps show Alice the ropes to her singledom. If you’re a big fan of Johnson’s like I am, you’ll welcome any opportunity to see her on the big screen, and she’s hilarious in the movie. There’s so much to love about “How to be Single,” from the great cast to the shenanigans the characters get in. “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” seriesStreaming on Netflix. You really can’t help but smile when you watch the “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” series. Lana Condor and Noah Centineo are perfect in their roles as two teenagers who, at first, are in a fake relationship, but later true feelings develop between them. The second and third films continue to build on their romance and all the very real things that happen when you’re in love and in high school. This series gives off high “watching a movie and scarfing down ice cream” comfort levels, and who doesn’t want that on Valentine’s Day? Cr., Moviestore Collection Shutterstock “Before” trilogyStreaming on Tubi. I don’t know if there’s a better romance trilogy out there than the “Before” movies. In “Before Sunrise,” Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Celine (Julie Delpy) meet on a train and decide to spend the day together before they have to depart in the morning. The bond that they form during those few hours, however, makes it harder to say goodbye. The next two films, set several years apart, bring even more of their romance to light. It’s a series that’ll make you believe in love again, and maybe even get you to buy a plane ticket and find your own romance overseas. The classic tale of a long lost love back again, but with a few complications. Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman star in the 1944 best picture winning film, where Rick (Bogart), a cafe owner, has to decide if he should help his former lover, Ilsa (Bergman), and her fugitive husband escape the Nazis in French Morocco. With a beautiful story, incredible performances and many iconic lines, good luck not falling in love with “Casablanca.” 13 GOING ON 30, Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Garner, 2004, (c) Columbia/courtesy Everett Collection “13 Going On 30”Streaming on HBO Max. I remember being super excited to grow up when I was younger, and “13 Going On 30” was the “it” movie for me at that time. After Jenna Rink (Jennifer Garner), a dorky 13-year-old, wishes she was 30, she wakes up the next morning and discovers her wish came true. But with no memory of what happened between the ages of 13 and 30, she has to navigate the bustling career and new life she has. But life, she discovers, is not always perfect, especially when she realizes she might lose the person she loves the most. It’s a great movie to watch really any day, but a special treat on Valentine’s Day.
